Rhythmic patterns of land, sea, hills,trees and effects of weather inspire my approach to landscape. Colour is expressionist in feel and I work mainly in oils using gestural markmaking with brush and knife to paint my response to the heat of Italy or the changing light of Scotland. My main references are charcoal or ink drawings made directly from the subject.
