Atelier Verrocchio with Bella

Centro d’Arte Verrocchio, Casole d'Elsa

5th to 19th September 2024

Returning again for the third year after lockdown. Please get in touch if you are interested, bookings are now open for 2024.

See below for what you can expect on this course and do get in touch if you have any questions at all.

I have been going to this amazing place for nearly 30 years, and although it can take fewer numbers (about 8/9) than previously, since lockdown, it is still one of my favourite places to be. Located in the Tuscan hills an hour south of Florence and half an hour north of Siena, this is an unspoilt Italian hill town that you will fall in love with.

The arts centre was founded by the sculptor Nigel Konstam, who sadly passed away last year. But his daughter Hannah is keep it going, and those of us who know and love it are so glad about that.

There are spacious studios and a terrace with views to the Chianti hills. A minute walk in one direction takes you to olive groves and vineyards, and in another, to the unspoilt village and its friendly people, bars and shops.

Bookings are now open for 2024. The cost of the tuition on for the course is £250. I can let you know about food and transport when you get in touch.

Available rooms and prices for accommodationcan be found on the Verrocchio Art Centre website. Here is the link.

Why Atelier ?

Centro d’Arte Verrocchio, Casole d'Elsa

5th to 19th September 2024

In previous years at Verrocchio, when it used to be able to accommodate up to 16 students I ran themed workshops. Now that the maximum numbers are about half that, I am calling these unthemed courses ‘Ateliers’. A working studio with a professional artist on tap.

Every other day I will be available for the whole working day for individual tuition and feedback, as well group tuition, requested demos, and slide shows on topics relevant to the work in the group.

On my available days you can join the group talks and feedback sessions if you wish, and have personal tuition.  My aim is to offer an art space where you can ‘do your own thing’ and I will also be working in the studio, so we can all learn from each others’ process. I think this  one of the advantages of sharing a studio.

The whole time will be flexible to suit the needs and wishes of everyone in the group. and this ‘atelier’ approach allows you time to relax and digest new information at your own pace.

My intention

My intention for you is for you to develop your own ‘style’ and way of working by providing support, encouragement and an abundance of technical information and approaches to aesthetics and making art.

My specialist topics include everything to do with colour in painting, the importance of mark making and a flexible painting process, and visual perspective, notan and composition. So any issues you have with any of these I am sure I can help . My main mediums in which I have abundant experience are, acrylics, oils, gouache and mixed media.

I am delighted to be showing my latest still life works on the theme of INSIDE/OUT in Edinburgh. We are all from Dumfries and Galloway and it will be a varied and interesting show.

If your are in Edinburgh on Sunday 16th July, do join us at the opening and share a glass of fizz and meet us all. We will all be there from 10am - 5pm. The opening and fizz will be from 2pm.

We are taking it in turns to ’sit in’ and I will also be there on July 17, 18 and 19th and again on the last day on July 30 we will all be there. So love to see you if you can make it.
