WORKSHOP AT EASTGATE THEATRE, PEEBLES
At last! The pleasure of a face to face workshop is returning. The Eastgate theatre in Peebles near Edinburgh, is spacious enough to be safe.
There will be no more that 15 students. The fee for the day including all materials is £60.
So, if you are a local, or nearby I would love to welcome you to this day of playing with paints.
There will be demos and slides and lots of information about approaches to expressive markmaking in painting and tips on how to use it to create space and visual distance… all materials included…and a lovely cafe for lunch, or bring your own.
In the morning we will explore and experiment, and in the afternoon you can tackle a still life or landscape subject of your choice…with help on hand when you need it.
Be Painterly or Go graphic July 24 – 30 2021
Cober Hill near Scarborough, Yorkshire.
This is a fun course where we look at two main ways of making paintings – more free and painterly and more controlled or graphic.
Cober Hill has come highly recommended and I am looking forward to my visit and the course after a year of nothing being possible face to face. I hope it will be the first of many at this lovely place.

Workshops in Italy
Sadly, my beloved centre d’Arte Verrocchio has fallen victim to the pandemic and for the next couple of years at least, it has been forced to close its doors for courses.
However, they are hoping to be able to offer atelier style accommodation on a DIY basis.
Please visit their website for the details so far.
Covid permitting I hope to be as usual there for the whole month of Septmeber 2021.
So if there is an opportunity for you to join me I would love to see you there. Please be in touch with Verrocchio directly to arrange this. Although not as it has been, I am sure we can still have a wonderful time in this fabulous place and enjoy working on our art together. Do contact me if you are thinking about it and I can explain more.
ONLINE COURSES AND CLASSES
I am pleased to offer a variety of stand alone online classes.
More of these ‘at your own pace’ classes and courses will follow as I develop my online programme.
Several times in the year I will also offer online CLASSES/COURSES PLUS, where I work with a small group of no more than 12 students as we go through the course together, with additional tution and personal feedback.
When these are available the specific dates will be announced here.
OBSERVE PLAY CREATE with Landscape.
Playful ways to work from observation and photo references of your favourite landscape subjects.
COURSE DESCRIPTION – the four main parts of this class explore different ways to work with drawing from observation in the landscape. They show how to simplify right from the start so that you get just essential information to go forward into painting later. There are also examples of how to progress from drawing to painting.
OBSERVE PLAY CREATE with Still Life
Playful ways to begin a subject from observation and photo references.
COURSE DESCRIPTION – This seven part class shows alternative ways to begin a still life painting. This is the method Bella uses for her still life. It also explains why understanding the role of dark and light is so important and suggests playful ways to interpret any subject in a more ‘abstracted’ direction.
